Car Brands (Work in Progress)
So, because European cars are better designed and built, you're going to tax them??????

XE is the best car, by far, that I have ever driven. i-PACE will dominate the EV market. 2018-06.
Designed and Produced in: UK

Owned by Tata Industries, India
A fantastic car, tarnished by 'Dieselgate' and them buying back TDIs. Achieved 46mpg on long runs at 75mph. Averaged 43mpg overall. Superior build quality. Quattro best 4x4 by far. Top end V6s overpriced by a mile. e-tron Sportback. 2018-08.
Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Germany
Adequate design, poor iDrive ergonomics. 2018 touch screen distracting. Excellent paint quality. Achieves, on average, 2-3 mpg better than EPA mileage highway figures. Achieve 34mpg overall. xDrive only second to Quattro.
Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Germany
Poor internal finish with rattles. AWD capability below Quattro and xDrive systems. Desperately lacking power and mpg. Not up to EPA figures. Newer Imprezza / Crosstrek now built in USA have software crash issues.
Designed and Produced (some) in: Japan

Produced (many) in: USA
Chunky interior design, awful mpg figures. Supreme off-road capability. Ingenium engines needed across range.
Designed and Produced in: UK

Owned by Tata Industries, India
Best driver's car in the world, but only the Cayman in the right configuration. Six cylinder TDIs may come back and bite them. MISSION E (EV) coming.
Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Germany
Very good design and build quality. Utterly tarnished by fraud involved with 'Dieselgate'. Six cylinder TDIs will come back and bite them. Awful gasoline engine design and mileage as a result, especially in V6s.
Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Germany
Improving with age, quality up. Twin-Scroll turbo shared with BMW. Brexit may end up killing the brand by becoming too expensive. Some models now made in mainland EU. Cowley, watch out!
Produced in: UK. Some in VDL Nedcar, Holland.

Astounding improvement in design and reliability. Pricing at remarkable levels.
Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Japan
KIA Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Japan
Outrageous styling and through the roof pricing. Much better buys around.
Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Japan
Iconic SX-4 model excellent, except fuel consumption and sluggish because of no turbo. Brand no longer sold in USA. Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Japan
Big improvement in recent new model introductions. Especially by getting away from Ford connections. SkyActiv-D engines will never reach US market. Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Japan
Infiniti - see very few around. Dying breed? Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Japan
A Honda with really no extra 'appeal'. Pricing to suit. Designed and Produced (mostly) in: Japan
Poor leather work and finishing. Hopeless transmission software making for a deplorable driving experience. Main grace is their safety record. Designed and Produced in: Sweden

Owned by Geely (China)
A goog run-of-the-mill car for European use. Automatic versions have shifter that goes too easily into manual mode. Designed in France
Poor cluster design. Excellent mpg. AWFUL card-based locking system. Randomly locks you out or can't start engine. Designed in France
Highly overrated and overpriced. Poor interior feel. Turning circle impractical. Designed in: Germany

10% Owned by Geely (China)
Can they ever overcome the stigma of their past?
Designed and Produced in: Italy
Achieves the best in-house rating of the VAG group. Shares many dealership sites with VW, Audi, etc. in Europe.
Designed and produced in Spain
What can one say? Run of the mill, goodish car, except for the bottom of the barrel Prius Prime. Shouldn't be allowed! Designed and Produced (some) in: Japan

Produced (many) in: USA
Pushes Toyota close, only problem is the trend towards their owners - Renault and Captor model derivatives. Ugh! Designed and Produced (some) in: Japan

Produced (some) in: USA

Owned by Renault (France)
Inexpensive arm of Renault. Gets from A-to-B. Poor trim. Designed and Produced in Romania

Owned by Renault

Ford makes trucks, not cars. Everything terribly out of whack (inc. use of SYNC s/w). Only good vehicle - F-150 because of aluminum (learnt from Jag). Include Lincoln in this. Glaringly missing route to EVs.
Designed and many Produced in: USA
Desperately trying to sell SUVs and trucks. Only saving grace is the Bolt. Include GMC in this, they are just re-badged, as are Cadillac.
Designed and Produced in: USA
Inexpensive for a reason. Made in China.
Designed in: USA

Produced in: China
Horrible build quality. Rattles, leaks and windows that fall out. Paint shop needs a rebuild. Orange peel!
Designed and Produced (some) in: Japan

Produced (some) in: USA
Built 'cheap'. Sold 'cheap'. Expensive replacement parts.
Designed and Produced (some) in: Japan
Terrible construction quality. Leaking light clusters and panel and trim fit. Not fit for the 'primetime', especially as a 'luxury' car. Owners frequently appear in loaners!
Designed and Produced in: USA
Highly variable model-to-model and car-to-car. Roulette wheel.
Designed and Produced in: USA
Improved by Daimler, ruined again by FIAT.
Designed and Produced in: USA
Wins few approval points from users. Reliability and quality issues. Called Dodge for a reason.
Designed and Produced in: USA
FIAT 500? Appalling. Like driving a toy made in Hong-Kong in the 1960s.
Designed and Produced in: Italy
VAG = Volkswagen/Audi/Porsche

Emissions 'free'
Diesel sales ceased September 2015
USA
Cars Substantially Diesel-free by 2022

What happens to electricity generation and grid capacity when all these EVs plug in overnight?
What happens when the tax and other incentive plans run out for Tesla and then others as they ramp up?
USA
What happens to world Li supplies and who owns them or can 'tap' them?
EVs must make some low speed noise. They are deadly to pedestrians, especially in grey or silver. You can't see at one glance (or right-left-right [UK] / left-right-left [USA]) or hear them. White noise makers as used on buggies at Gatwick (London) airport would do the job.
